LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Joseph Bellino is applauding news that the River Raisin Watershed Council in Adrian has been awarded a state grant to support its conservation and educational efforts.
“This grant will help the River Raisin Watershed Council in its efforts to promote the connection between the quality of our outdoors and the quality of our lives in Michigan,” said Bellino, R-Monroe. “Through education, volunteer cleanups, outdoor recreation and more, the public service nonprofit organization will help improve our region for years to come, and I applaud them for earning this competitive grant.”
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) awarded the River Raisin Watershed Council a $39,984.75 grant.
It was one of 17 statewide recipients to receive the watershed council grants, which are limited to $40,000 per applicant. The projects must be completed within one year of receiving the grants.
Allowed usages for the grants include supporting outreach and educational activities, water quality improvement and water quality monitoring and purchasing equipment and supplies.
Other grants awarded in the area include $39,259.28 to the Calhoun Conservation District in Marshall and $39,998.52 to the Friends of the Detroit River in Taylor.
