LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Joseph Bellino on Wednesday applauded the announcement that 12 businesses in Monroe and Hillsdale counties have been awarded Going PRO Talent Fund grants to help train local workers.

“This funding is about investing in our people and our future by helping train local workers for high-skill, high-wage jobs in manufacturing and health care,” said Bellino, R-Monroe. “These are the type of positive investments that I have long supported to help Michigan workers find new careers and enable current workers to keep their jobs in a dynamic workplace.”

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity makes Going PRO Talent Fund awards to employers through Michigan Works! Agencies (MWAs). Participating employers play an integral role in defining their key training needs, then work with their local MWAs and other partners to develop strategic training plans.

Hillsdale Hospital in Hillsdale will receive $205,459 to train 135 people.

Businesses in Monroe County that will also receive grants include:

• Gerdau Monroe Mill in Monroe being awarded $269,970 to train 188 workers.
• Spartan Steel Coating in Monroe getting $59,749 to train 38 workers.
• Spicer Group, Inc. in Dundee being awarded $4,799 to train three workers.
• Axis Engineering, LLC in Dundee receiving $89,000 to train 37 workers.
• MediLodge of Monroe being awarded $37,500 to train 18 workers.
• Ventower Industries in Monroe getting $178,900 to train 95 workers.
• 360 Digilab in Monroe being awarded $99,700 to train 66 workers.
• Fluid Equipment Development Company in Monroe getting $48,708 to train 37 workers.
• Fischer Tool & Die in Temperance receiving $28,000 to train eight workers.
• Premier Industries in Monroe being awarded $12,000 to train seven workers.
• Burrow Industries Inc. in Temperance getting $13,000 to train five workers.

Since its launch in 2014, the Going PRO Talent Fund has provided 7,480 grants to businesses to train 220,000 new and existing Michigan workers.
