Sen. Joseph Bellino, R-Monroe, was one of the key lawmakers recognized by the Small Business Association of Michigan at its Leadership Council winter event at Heritage Hall on Tuesday for work last year to reduce the tax burden on small businesses, promote economic growth through redevelopment of brownfield sites, and oppose other measures that stifle the relationship between employers and employees.

Sen. Joseph Bellino, R-Monroe, on Wednesday was honored as Legislator of the Year by Michigan Ducks Unlimited during its third annual legislative luncheon. Bellino was presented the award by Kyle Rorah, director of Public Policy for Ducks Unlimited Great Lakes/Atlantic Region, in recognition of his work on legislation and policy in support of wetland conservation and Ducks Unlimited.

Sen. Joseph Bellino, R-Monroe, welcomed Ben Negron to the Michigan Capitol on Wednesday night as his guest for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's 2024 State of the State address. Negron has been a resident of Adrian for more than 40 years and is the store director at the Meijer in Adrian. He received the 2022 Fred Meijer Award, which is given annually to an individual who embodies the values and mission set forth by company founder Fred Meijer, including leadership based in humility, generosity and a passion for serving others. The award is the highest-level recognition a Meijer employee can receive. Last year, the Adrian City Commission gave Negron a proclamation congratulating Negron for earning the award and praising him for his many years of community service and advocacy work throughout the Adrian area.

Sen. Joseph Bellino, R-Monroe, welcomed retired Chief Warrant Officer 5 John Griffith to the state Capitol on Thursday as his special guest for the Michigan Senate's 28th Annual Memorial Day Service, which honored Michigan's fallen soldiers. Griffith joined the U.S. Army in 1968 and was trained as a military police sentry dog handler, serving in Vietnam in 1969. While serving in the U.S. Army Reserves with the 300th Military Police Brigade in Inkster, with subsequent assignment as operations officer to the 323rd Military Police Detachment in Jackson, Griffith was promoted to chief warrant officer five. Griffith retired from the U.S. Army Reserves in 2001 after 32 years of military service. John's wife Kris Griffith also served in the U.S. Army and is past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6th District Auxiliary.

Sen. Joseph Bellino, R-Monroe, was formally sworn in as senator for the 16th District during a ceremony at the state Capitol. Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Elizabeth T. Clement administered the oath of office. Bellino was joined on the Senate floor for the ceremony by his wife, Peggy, his brothers Mark and Mike, his niece, Emily Bellino, and his nephew, Ben Bellino. Bellino was also elected as associate president pro tempore by the full Senate.
